NetSuite ERP is a unified, scalable Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution aimed at fast-growing businesses that allows you to run your entire business in real-time from anywhere with an internet connection. The acronym ERP has been around since the 1990’s and stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. It commonly refers to software that organisations use to manage core business activities such as accounting, procurement, sales, CRM (Customer Relationship Management), marketing and reporting.
Nowadays ERP is a must-have tool for any business that wants to operate efficiently and plan for future growth.
Ok, I understand NetSuite ERP now but, what is the Cloud?
So, NetSuite ERP is a true cloud solution. By now we’re all familiar with the term ‘cloud’, but what is it exactly? If you take a picture of your meal with your smartphone (if you don’t there must be something wrong with you) it will be saved locally on your phone’s storage. If you upload it to Instagram, or Dropbox it is then stored in ‘the Cloud’. Cloud-based computing is quite an abstract concept for many people, but it is merely a network of servers with each server performing different functions, managed by a company. Some servers in ‘the cloud’ might be used for storing data, whilst others will be running software or services, and all you need to access the cloud is a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone and an internet connection.
Historically most legacy ERP systems were on-site, stored locally and managed by the IT department. The problem with this approach is that as soon as the software is installed it is out of date, and the costs to update the software every year as new versions are released are prohibitive. Over time the software can become less stable and requires constant patching by IT causing down-time, roll-backs and disruption to the business. A company I recently worked for were using a dated ERP system that was constantly having to be patched up. On one occasion, we were forced to roll-back two days; consequently, all the sales orders and invoices entered over the past 2 days had to be re-entered manually, causing major disruption and reputational damage to the business.
So, NetSuite ERP is a SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP system that performs all the functions you would expect (and more) via an internet connection. Here at Elevate2 we believe NetSuite to be the most accomplished cloud ERP system on the market. It’s a multi-tenanted platform – meaning all customers use the same up-to-date version of the software, and all updates are applied automatically. It’s highly configurable and also flexible to support your unique ways of working.
